BAUELEMENTE

2019

Brass, plaster, 3D print

The exhibition presents the objects related to Bauhaus in the collection of the Museum on the occasion of the anniversary of the founding of Bauhaus. As one of five contemporary artistic reactions to these objects, Bauelemente („Assembly Parts“) reflects on 8 small objects by artist and architect Hermann Finsterlin, the Didyms, didym meaning twin or double. Part toy, part geometrical model, part prototype, these colourful combinations of simple shapes defy any clear definition, but might have been meant as a prototype for a construction game.
Bauelemente has two parts, the first a number of larger rough wire models, each defining the shared shape of one Didym, the part you can not see. And another part, small black fragments, each of which corresponds to a shape in one of the didyms, as if all the parts that are not shared had been peeled of.
